COVID-19 Response

Education, Resources, Services, and Community Partnership

South Central Prevention Coalition felt it was our responsibility to promote health literacy concerning COVID-19 that would aid in slowing the spread of the virus and allow community members to make a well informed decision regarding the vaccine. In doing so, our education and outreach efforts from 2020 to the present, has assisted in mitigating further increase in the number of positive and/or severe cases of those affected by COVID. As a substance use prevention provider, it was also our goal to decrease the use of alcohol and other drugs among youth and adults, and concerns with their mental and emotional health during this time.

In 2020, with the support of former Los Angeles City Councilman and President - Herb Wesson and in collaboration with Charles Drew Medical University, SCPC assisted in distributing PPE supplies to Los Angeles County residents in Compton, South LA, and neighboring communities.

The Sabbath Town Hall “The Intersection Between Faith and Wellness” Series, ensures that people across the country have a platform to ask questions and receive accurate information from medical professionals and researchers concerning COVID-19 and the vaccine. In partnership with Charles Drew Medical University, the Corona Virus (COVID-19) Prevention Network, the faith based community, and a number of community based organizations we are currently planning our third series of townhall meetings, with our first scheduled for August 2023.
